In the heart of Denver, Colorado, the Central Park Station Plaza stands as a shining example of creative concrete craftsmanship. Bomanite Licensee Colorado Hardscapes, in partnership with Mortenson and Dig Studio, tackled an expansive hardscaping venture. The project included a 20,000 sq. ft. Bomanite Sandscape® Texture plaza, a 14,000 sq. ft. streetscape, intricate curb and gutter work, three large decorative planter benches, and 8,000 sq. ft. of pavers. This ambitious endeavor highlights Colorado Hardscapes’ mastery of hardscaping and the innovative collaboration that shaped its design.
Precast Planters and Persistent Precision
The first phase focused on the installation of three large precast bench planters, each composed of 21 meticulously placed pieces. Adverse weather conditions, including unexpected cold and rain, posed challenges and delayed progress until spring 2023. Once conditions improved, Colorado Hardscapes prepared and scarified the sub-base, paving the way for the streetscape, curb, gutter, and plaza installations. Their adaptability and commitment ensured the project moved forward with precision despite early setbacks.
Decorative Design with Dynamic Detailing
The decorative concrete plaza featured alternating 6-inch thick, 8-foot wide Bomanite Sandscape® Texture bands. Custom integral colors enhanced the aesthetic, with a lightened concrete palette complemented by dark bands created using Bomanite Dark Gray. The standard gray curb and gutter seamlessly tied the design together. A monolithic transition between street and plaza paving demanded meticulous craftsmanship, with Colorado Hardscapes ensuring near-perfect placement. Their attention to detail underscored why they were the perfect choice for this high-profile project.
Strict Standards and Stunning Streetscapes
Aligning the design of the plaza and streetscape required adherence to Denver’s stringent transportation standards. This included 8-foot bands reinforced with epoxy dowels and dowel baskets. Custom colors, including Bomanite Dark Gray, further unified the aesthetic. Colorado Hardscapes’ expertise and professionalism transformed the streetscape into one of Denver’s most intricate and visually striking urban landscapes. Their commitment to craftsmanship upheld the exacting standards expected of Bomanite Licensees.
Surfaces Styled with Sophistication
Bomanite Sandscape® Texture offers unparalleled aesthetic and functional benefits. This decorative concrete finish mimics the look of sand-blasted surfaces, providing consistent texture and visual appeal. Its versatility allows for the integration of colored sands and aggregates, creating diverse design options. Economically, it offers low life cycle costs, thanks to its pre-aged surface that minimizes maintenance needs. This balance of beauty and practicality makes it a top choice for modern hardscapes.
Durable Designs for Demanding Destinations
Durability is another hallmark of Bomanite Sandscape® Texture. Its pre-aged surface resists wear, making it ideal for high-traffic spaces like plazas, walkways, and commercial hubs. The finish combines longevity with safety, featuring non-skid properties that enhance usability in environments where slip resistance is crucial. Its ability to pair with various staining and coloring techniques ensures that projects not only endure but also maintain their visual charm over time.
Concrete Creativity Captured at Central Park Plaza
Central Park Station Plaza is more than a transit hub—it’s a masterclass in merging functionality with artful design. Colorado Hardscapes transformed the space into a vibrant showcase of decorative concrete, redefining urban aesthetics in Denver. Whether you’re catching a train or marveling at the details, this project proves how purposeful precision can elevate concrete from mundane to magnificent.
